The Lantern

Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association dlwca.org January 2023

Another Thank You Jo Ann Donnelly A big apology to my friend and family member Helen Schmidt for not including her in my list of volunteers. She has faithfully helped me bundle the newsletter that is then delivered to my route volunteers. She has been a very big help over the months and years!

Polar Plunge Support Special Olympics with several hundred other brave (or crazy) folks in swimsuits this January!

Mosaic is hosting the event on January 14. Registration starts at noon, followed by a costume contest at 1:00. The plunge starts at 1:15 and goes until everyone has had a turn. Local sponsors will be providing cool incentives. Find more information at www.polarplunge.com/mosaic/event-information.

Video Game String Ensemble Do you play violin, viola, cello, or double bass? Have you always wanted to play the music from video games? If the answers to these questions is yes, then join Michelle Eng at Patrick Henry Library on January 21 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. for a free session, combining classical performance with the excitement and energy of music from video games. Musicians of all levels are encouraged to join, but instrumentalists should have at least 2 years of experience on their instrument, can sight read, and can play at an intermediate level. This is the music that is stuck in your head all day, and now you can play it on your instrument with other fans! Please bring your own instrument, music stand, and pencil.

Vienna Theatre Tackles Monty Python Monty Python's “Edukational Show,” a collection of sketches, songs, and animation from "Monty Python's Flying Circus,” is an entertaining and hilarious 80-minute musical revue that includes such Python gems as "Lumberjack Song" and"Dead Parrot.” Come enjoy the laughs on the weekends of January 20 through February 5 at the Vienna Community Center. Tickets and information are available at www.viennatheatrecompany.org/.
