President’s Message

Steve Bergeron

Greetings everyone! I hope all is well and that you are enjoying the warmer spring weather! Just a quick reminder that our Spring Membership Meeting is scheduled for this month, so please mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend. Also, our Annual Yard Sale is back! Finally, check out our website at dlwca.org for more updates and content on what’s going on in our community. Thank you, stay safe and enjoy spring!

Annual Yard Sale

The annual yard sale is planned for Saturday, May 20 (rain date Sunday, May 21) from 8AM-2PM. Announcements will be placed in local newspapers and on social media and signs will be placed at entrances to both communities. More information will be coming on our website.

Spring Membership Meeting May 25

We look forward to our Spring Membership Meeting, to be held in-person in the cafeteria at Stenwood Elementary on Thursday, May 25, at 7:30 p.m.

Gallows Rd. Bridge Over I-66 Update

The following is a response from VDOT to an inquiry from a community resident:

"Crews experienced unanticipated complications during fall and winter that slowed the project’s progress. In recent weeks work on the completion of the second span (southbound Gallows Road) has picked up again and activity is underway to complete the bridge deck. This will be followed by construction of parapets (walls), fencing, sidewalks, and a shared-use path on the new bridge span during spring and early summer. The approaches to the bridge, including straightening of Gallows Road and realignment of the shared-use path on the north side of the bridge, will occur this spring and early summer followed by shifting of traffic to the final alignment using both spans this summer."

Metro Closure, Again

Dunn Loring and Vienna metro stations will be closed again this summer, from June 3 through July 16. According to metro’s website, “This shutdown will be conducted in two phases to reduce the customer impact as work is completed. The Infrastructure team will focus on replacing 40-year-old steel rail that has become significantly more susceptible to rail breaks than rail in any other part of the system. Metro has been tracking rail breaks in the system to identify priority locations for replacement and has determined the rail in this stretch of track to be a top priority. In addition, teams will be upgrading old copper cables to fiber-optic cable to modernize the system, including advanced radio, signal, and train communication technology.”

Mosaic Pop-Up Market

Mark your calendar for a 3-day weekend event, May 5 to 7 at Mosaic. On Friday, kick off the weekend with a Cinco de Mayo street party and enjoy live music, delicious food, and exquisite cocktails while browsing creative makers at URBNmarket's pop-up market.

Keep the fun going through the weekend with more outdoor shopping, the perfect opportunity to buy gifts for Mother’s or Father’s Day, graduations, or teacher’s gifts.

Please send submissions, ideas for articles, and photos to dlwlantern@gmail.com.

The deadline for our next issue is May 26.
